Terrick Gutierrez
Terrick Gutierrez (b. 1994) is an interdisciplinary artist, curator, creative technologist, and storyteller based in Los Angeles. Terrick explores the intricacies of urban life in LA, with a keen focus on the built environment, including liquor stores and public housing projects. He is interested in understanding how laws and practices such land uses and zoning continue to shape urban landscapes and as a result influence the way we live, impacting our behaviors, interactions, and overall well-being. Through this work he addresses social issues such as food insecurity, cultural erasure, and displacement. Terrick’s work also addresses identity and personal narratives of being biracial and growing up in South Central Los Angeles. As a child of Belizean and Mexican immigrants, his recent work focuses on his parents' migration stories, seeking to weave their experiences into his own. Through this approach, he aims to shed light on the broader themes of race, identity, and migration.
Terrick earned his Bachelor of Arts in psychology with a minor in art from Morehouse College in 2017 and his Master of Professional Studies in interactive telecommunications from New York University in 2019. He has exhibited across the country in Atlanta, New York, and Los Angeles and his work is in private collections on the East and West Coast.
